Lama Tenpa was born in 1942 in Oklahoma. He studied at the
University of Wisconsin and received a degree in Economics
in1970. Lama Tenpa's interest in Buddhism began in the early
1960's and led to the co-founding of the first Buddhist center
in Milwaukee where both Theravada and Zen Buddhism were practiced.
Fluent in Spanish, Lama Tenpa taught English in Spain from
1975-1983. He became a student of Lama Gendun Rinpoche's in

Lama Tenpa received full monk's ordination. Since 1991, at
the request of Lama Gendun and Shamar Rinpoche, Lama Tenpa
has been teaching Buddhism throughout Europe and the US.
